An Investigation on the Effect of Organisational Culture on Organisational Performance in the Information Technology Industry: A Case Study Of IBM UK (2015)

This dissertation strives to make an extensive study on organisational culture. The purpose of this study is to find out the extent to which organisational culture proves to be effective enough in influencing the organisational in the present business scenario. Hence, the researcher decides to conduct the study on the information technology based industry with special reference to IBM in UK. The benefits of this research are to get to know the importance of organisational culture and its influence on organisational performance.

Moreover, it even benefits the researcher in making use of mixed research methods to make an augmented form of study. In fact, since IBM is a US originated organisation, operating in the UK, therefore this study surely implies appropriate data in context to organisational culture and its effectiveness. The researcher uses positivism philosophy along with deductive approach and analytical design as well as mixed research methods, i.e. primary and secondary research. Moreover, based on primary research, the researcher uses both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.

Random, probability sampling on sample size of 50 employees of IBM is done for quantitative data while convenient, non-probability sampling is done on 5 managers of IBM for qualitative data. The quantitative data is evaluated by transforming the data into percentages and showing them in graphical and tabular representations. On the other hand, evaluation of transcripts is done for qualitative data.

Dissertation objectives:

The present research aims to investigate the role of organisational culture in improving the organisational performances in the present competitive business market. A special reference is made to IBM in the UK, which stands out as a leading information technology based firm.
