An Investigation into The Impact of UK House Building on The Environment (2020)

UK House Building and the Environment Dissertation – Due to this increase in demand, the environment has taken a big hit and now, more than ever, it requires people to live their lives as sustainable as possible. This also includes companies taking every measure possible to ensure they are implementing sustainable methods of construction and sourcing their materials in the best possible way.

In doing so, this will contribute towards minimising the overall impact that the construction industry has on the environment. The housing industry in the UK accounts for 14.5% of greenhouse gas emissions, this shows the government and house building companies need to do more in building sustainably in order to reach the NET – ZERO carbon emissions goal by 2050.

Despite the negative effects that the housing industry can have on the ecosystem, there are several modern methods of construction which can be implemented that will benefit the environment whilst still fulfilling the buildings principal requirements. Currently, there are several organisations and frameworks within the construction industry that focus on promoting sustainable buildings – with the UK government now providing considerable funding to support these ideologies.

Even though people are now being made more aware of the environment and are starting to change their ways of living to be more sustainable, they should still be striving to do more to help the environment. The housing sector has a big impact on the environment, so it is important to see what measures construction companies are taking to ensure they are building in the most sustainable way as possible.

The research carried out in this dissertation is therefore essential as it will give a detailed view on how sustainable house building companies in the UK are.
