
An Investigation Into
The Use Of
Ability Tests In The Selection Process At GE Capital (2007)
The
aim of the dissertation is to review the current use of SHL ability
tests in
the selection process of interns at GE Capital Consumer Finance. This
is in
order to establish whether or not the tests are adding any value to the
process
and what, if any, changes need to be made to the procedure.
The
objectives of the dissertation are as follows: (1) Review the
literature
surrounding ability tests. This will include the history of tests,
their main
use in organisations today, issues surrounding the validity and
reliability of
tests and limitations of the tests; (2) Review the current process at
GECF in
terms of: what ability tests are used; how much emphasis is placed on
the test
results in the decision making process; which norm groups are used for
the
tests; and how much consistency there is throughout the organisation in
the
usage of ability tests and norm groups; (3) Investigate whether the
ability
test process is adding any value to the selection process; and
(Determine what,
if any, changes need to be made to the selection process.
