"Management
of Change In Information Systems Development"
This
dissertation pursues the domain of information systems in an attempt to
develop deeper understanding into the process of participative designs
and management of change, thus contributing empirical findings toward
the diverse issues of systems development.
In Chapter 1, it identifies an information system development project
is taking shape at the Co-operative Group, titled Project Metro. A
primary objective is established introducing user participation and
management of change in systems developments as areas of interest.
Chapter 2 provides the organisation's background details, leading to
Chapter 3. This chapter firmly places the organisation in a system
development context, using the three fundamental I.S. perspectives for
internal and external analysis: people, organisations and technology.
Chapter 4 introduces Butler and Fitzgerald's model in which the factors
that made up the model are carefully reviewed supported by relevant
literatures. Additional materials for user participation are presented
in Chapter 5. Further literature in change management and introduction
of change approaches are shown in Chapter 6, with the presentation of
Models of Change. In Chapter 7, a research methodology is established
by adopting a mixed approach; careful considerations are given to the
epistemological perspectives and key research designs. Chapter 8
performs an ecological validity analysis in support of the external
validity of this research. Chapter 9 is a précis of the
findings; detailed descriptions are available in the appendix. An
in-depth analysis of the results is presented in Chapter 10. Finally,
research limitations, conclusions, research implication and future
development are discussed in Chapter 11.
