Investigation Into the Impact of Green Technology on Energy and Cost Efficiency Within the UK Construction Industry (2017)

The contribution of construction industries towards the global warming is comprehendible since the activities involve the usage of fossil fuels during the construction process, emitting a lot of toxic gases and in turn harmful for humans and the environment. To investigate the effectiveness of green technology and cost and energy efficiency at Wates Construction Ltd. A qualitative research design has been implemented based on an inductive approach. The qualitative data has been collected from 10 participants of Wates Construction Ltd on the basis of purpose sampling.

A thematic analysis has been employed to examine the specific objective with the help of semi-structured questionnaire. The findings have explained that there is a great impact of green technology and cost and energy efficiency in Wates Construction Ltd. Skills and knowledge are important indicators driving the improvement of construction industry.

Legislative and economic perspectives are further important indicators to increase the performance of construction industry with respect to green projects. The return on the investment and the capital cost are the potential challenges that influence the effectiveness of green technology. This research has provided limitations and recommendations on the basis of findings for future studies.

The carbon footprint can be alleviated in the construction industry by undertaking several steps such as the construction process, operation, maintenance and the design. The notion of sustainable construction intends to reduce the environmental influence of construction process as well as increase both social benefits and economic viability of construction. The most essential element for the construction industry is to ensure the construction process to be eco-friendly and retain the comfort for communities. Therefore, the effectiveness of green technology reveals the pollution free environment in order to protect the atmosphere and avoid threats of global warming.

The aim of this dissertation is to assess the impact of green technology on energy and cost efficiency of construction industry – A case study of Wates Construction Ltd. Additionally, few objectives have been instigated to support the specific aim:
