The Effectiveness of Workplace Diversity: Examining its Impact on Employee Performance in the Context of Thai Airways (2018)

Workplace diversity is a significant issue in the modern world. With globalization taking effect, many companies now operate as multinationals and employ individuals from various nations. Thai Airways, headquartered in Thailand, is one such multinational air transport carrier. However, within Thai Airways, numerous employees hail from different countries, including China, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, and others. Consequently, workplace diversity becomes a prominent concern in this organization. This research study delved into Thai Airways’ diversity inclusion practices to assess the prevailing situation and its impact on employees.

Simple random sampling was used to select 50 employees, who then participated in a survey to gain insights into the company’s diversity inclusion practices and their effects. The survey results indicate that a majority of employees express dissatisfaction with the diversity practices, revealing disparities and instances of unfair treatment within Thai Airways. Furthermore, quantitative analysis demonstrates that unfair treatment adversely affects employee performance. Consequently, recommendations have been formulated to address these issues within Thai Airways, with the goal of enhancing employee job satisfaction and performance levels.

This study will enable the company as well the employees to understand the importance of diversity in the workplace and its impact on employee motivation and performance. The study portrays how the company can implement a diverse workforce in creating a positive influence resulting in productivity. There has been a number of research studies conducted on the impact of the factors of the workforce diversity like the gender, age, caste, race, color, religion, disability, culture and personality traits on the employee performance. This research would further put forward a pathway for the organizations in considering the future research related to workplace diversity.

The aim of the research study lies in exploring the diversity factors within the workplace of the Thai Airways. This involves the evaluation of the factors based on the productivity and efficiency of employees. The research also involves putting across recommendation for mitigating negative influence of the diversity practice within the organization.
