Public and Private Regulation of Labour Standards in China: A Critical Analysis
Regulation of Labour Standards in China Dissertation – Globalisation and the opening of the Chinese markets led to the boom of the economy, expressed with increased export production in the labour-intensive industries in the country. However, the rapid industrialization in combination with the massive migration and urbanization brought into emerge a large pool of labour that seeks for employment in the factories but is exploited for the scope of enterprise productivity and competitiveness.
The State issues national laws to address the problems associated with workers’ rights. Multinational corporations also are increasingly engaged in practices that address issues of ethical sourcing and fair labour conditions in their supply chain. In this study, these public and private attempts to confront the problems of deteriorating labour standards in China are put under a critical investigation regarding their motives, purposes and activities.
The aim of this research is to reveal the structural issues, related to the economic transformation, the social relations and the political reality, that affect the governance of labour standards in China.
