om. Tesco is currently the UK’s largest Supermarket chain and the market leading food retailer in the country with the core purpose to create value for customers and thus earn their loyalty. It is the largest British retailer by both global sales and domestic market share, with profits exceeding £3 billion, and the third largest global retailer based on revenue, behind Wal-Mart and Carrefour. With the economy being as it is at present, TESCO are fortunate that they have not been as badly affected as some retailers by the recession. TESCO have branded themselves as selling to everyone and therefore offer a range of products and services from Value to Finest prices thus appealing to all segments of the market. Despite being in a recession, Tesco made record profits for a British company during the 2009 year up to February 2010. Underlying per-tax profits increased 10.1% to £3.4 billion.
